- Ensure that you add new content regularly- search engines prefer ‘fresh meat’.
- The more content you can add, the better.
- Get valid, Validate your html and css code to check that it is accurate.
- Test your site in different browsers and resolutions, especially after any major changes. If possible check on different systems.
- Make your site as accessible as possible- run your site through validators regularly.
- Send out PR regularly to printed and online magazines, ensuring that your web address is clearly marked in the release.
- Add a standard sitemap page to your site to help visitors.
- Update your sitemap regularly or automate it using a script.
- Keep looking for sites that will link to yours and provide reciprocal links if possible.
- Resubmit your site to major search engines every couple of months but dont do it too frequently as it will get you blacklisted or banned for spamming.
- Check your web stats regularly and check for errors to see what is working and what is not.
